Animal Collective is a rock band from New York City. The band was formed in 2000 by Avey Tare (David Porter) and Panda Bear (Noah Lennox). The band's music is a fusion of folk, noise rock, ambient drone and twisted psychedalia.
The band released their first album, "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished" on their own label, Animal Imprint. The duo were then joined by Geologist (Brian Weitz) and Deaken (Conrad Deaken) and the group was complete. Collective released Danse Manatee in 2001. This was followed by the Live album which consisted of recordings of the group's debut tour with Black Dice. This was followed by Here Comes the Indian on Paw Tracks. The album was released in 2003 and was a critical and commercial acclaim. They released a compilation of Campfire Songs for the Catsup Plate label.
