Bocelli has primed American audiences for his brief June tour by performing with Jennifer Lopez on Dancing with the Stars. The two performed Quizas Quizas Quizas from the album and thrilled the audience. Bocelli expects to hear just as many thrilled fans while he is on tour, even if he does not have his impressive cast of guest artists to perform the duets.
Andrea Bocelli was born in 1958 in Tuscany. Born with slight sight issues among many other issues, his life appeared to be destined to be very difficult. Luckily, he had a passion for music and his mother encouraged him to pursue this interest. By the age of six he had begun taking piano lessons. He added the flute, saxophone, guitar, and many more instruments to his repertoire. Of course, most people respect him as a piano player but truly love listening to him for his voice.
He had been singing for as long as he had been learning instruments. This served him well, as he won singing competitions in Italy from the age of 14 on. Andrea Bocelli pursued higher education despite this early success, even becoming a lawyer before turning to music as a full time career.
Eventually he contracted congenital glaucoma and lost his vision. This did not stop him from pursuing his dream of becoming a professional singer. He finally broke through as a singer in the early 1990s. Plucked out of a collection of demo tapes by an Italian rock star, it became evident very early on that Andrea Bocelli would embrace both a role as a tenor and a role as a pop and rock singer.
Initially it was his classical work that earned greater notice and sold to a bigger audience. Viaggio Italiano, Aria – the opera album, and Sacred Arias each went platinum in markets across Europe and other English-speaking nations around the world. Sogno, his 1999 pop album, finally endeared him to more mainstream audiences. The multi-platinum, Top-5 album was the first of many hit pop albums, a list that includes Cieli di Toscana and My Christmas.
Today Bocelli continues to release both pop and classical albums to great acclaim. He has embraced reality television as well, seemingly making an appearance on every major reality talent show at least once during the season. All this keeps him in great demand and ensures that Andrea Bocelli tickets will sell out for years to come.
