Anathallo is an indie band. It was formed in 2000 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Anathallo constitutes of seven members who are front man Matt Joynt on auxiliary percussion, piano, vocals, guitar, Bret Wallin on auxiliary percussion, vocals, trombone, Andrew Dost on piano, flugelhorn, vocals, auxiliary percussion, piano, Seth Walker on bass, vocals, Danny Bracken on guitar, vocals, auxiliary percussion, Jeremiah Johnson on drums, vocals and Erica Froman on vocals, auxiliary percussion, clarinet. Anathallo is known for using variety of instruments such as drums, guitars, horns, bells and also some unconventional things like velcro strips, chains, pipes and boxes. Band has released host of albums which were well received by fans and critics. Their concerts are equally entertaining with their melodious rock music. Anathallo was formed when its band members were still in high school. Band has witnessed numerous changes in line ups since their formation. Some of its previous members were Glenn King, Ty Forquer, Nathan Sandberg, Kevin Greenlees/The Jig. Since their inception Anathallo have been involved in lot of touring. They have toured without a booking agent or a nationally distributed record. Matt Joynt once said "I suppose it's natural in the sense that we don't know anything else. This whole thing began as a teenage adventure that somehow never had to stop."

Anathallo released their first album "Luminous Luminescence" in 2001. It was an independent release with seven songs "Luminous Luminescence...", " To Renew, Cause to Grow, Or Bloom Again", " At Lowest Point", " Mardi Gras", " But Without Love", " the Atlas Position"and " Snowman".
2002 marked release of second album tilted "Sparrows" this time with Selah Records. Album had seven songs "I Thought in My Heart...", " Just Because You Can't See the Sun Doesn't Mean It's Not Shining ", " To Gary and Marcus: The Sovereignty of God Is Omnipresent", " Aaron Held His Peace", " A Song for Christine", " Fugue: 24" and title song " Sparrows".

In 2003 they released their album "A Holiday at the Sea" again on Selah Records. Title of album was inspired by a quote of C.S. Lewis who was a prolific author of 20th century. Album was released with just three songs " A Holiday at the Sea", " Don't Kid Yourself, You Need a Physician" and " Declared, Bannered".

"Hymns EP" in 2004 was fourth album by them with six songs "All Creatures of Our God and King", "What Wondrous Love is This?", " It is Well", "Before the Throne of God Above", "Come Ye Sinners" and "I Need Thee". The album constituted of traditional hymns covered by them and was adapted to their distinctive style.

In 2005 a split vinyl album was released by them with Javelins band. Album was titled "Entropy" with both bands having songs on the album. "Entropy" released on Potential Getaway Driver had two songs "Entropy by Javelins" and "Entropy by Anathallo".
On 25th February, 2006 fifth album by Anathallo was released "Floating World". It was a self released album with 14 songs. About album Matt Joynt said "[By this album] we exorcized the demons of our teenage angst and our necks began to hurt from all the head banging. I think we just found different dynamics and structures fascinating and challenging. The Beach Boys reentered the picture, as well as some Russian composers and Nathan's roots in Jazz. Oh, and Yes. The band, I mean."
Album was also their first album to be recorded in a proper studio compared to their earlier works which was recorded in mobile homes and living rooms.
