Amherst Information: Tickets, Venues, Events and More

Amherst is the college town in Massachusetts along the Connecticut River that houses students from Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The college town has 34,874 residents living there year round and thousands of students that spend two-thirds of the year in the area, which is generally divided into three sections – Amherst Center, North Amherst, and South Amherst.

The sporting scene is not the point of focus. Instead there are a number of great clubs to listen to music and a number of points of interest to entertain tourists. There is the Dickinson Homestead, the birthplace of famed-poet Emily Dickinson; the Amherst Cinema Arts Center, a local theater that shows many art and independent films; the tallest library in the United States, the W.E.B. Du Bois Library at UMass; and many more buildings and nature locations.

Amherst has a number of historic residents as well. There is a trio of poets, Emily Dickinson, Robert Francis, and Robert Frost; the inventor of the Dewey Decimal System, Melvil Dewey; former Chief Justice of the United States Harlan Fiske Stone; and a number of authors, such as Helen Hunt Jackson and Eugene Field.
