American Hi-fi
This Boston-based quartet, which includes singer / guitarist / songwriter Stacy Jones, guitarist Jamie Arentzen, bassist Drew Parsons and drummer Brian Nolan, saw the first single off their self-titled debut album, "Flavor of the Weak," get heavy rotation both on pop radio and on MTV. But American Hi-Fi isn't just a typical pop-punk band: they mix the heaviness of A New Found Glory with the volume of Green Day and the pop sensibilities of Oasis, creating a sonic explosion of loud, catchy, racy, and fun music. After years of playing drums for Letters to Cleo, Aimee Mann and Veruca Salt, Stacy Jones decided to start a band of his own. Bob Rock was the band's first choice for producer. Jones got to know him while drumming on former Veruca Salt member Nina Gordon's solo album, which was produced by Rock. Jones and his bandmates were hanging at Rock's Maui studio soon thereafter, rehearsing to record their debut release. Jones wrote all 12 of the album's tracks, and says much of the lyrical inspiration came from the difficult breakup of Veruca Salt.

Artist Biography - American Hi-fi
|
Even though the melodies on American Hi-Fi are pure pop, the thickness of guitars and drums puts the album in the heaviest of rock categories. The album's first single is "Flavor of The Weak," is a tune that tells a story about a girl who's insulted by her slacker boyfriend. The song didn't lose its particularly alternative performance though the verses have a sentimental feel straight from the sweetest 70's AM pop radio. American Hi-Fi shot the video for "The Art Of Losing" in Hays, Kansas, filming at a house party with a cast of 500. Inspired by an all night after-show blowout in Hays this past September, Jones returned to the town to party again, this time on film. The homeowner invited friends, family, and foes, and the classic rock party video was captured in all its glory.
