Artist Biography - Alan Bergman
Alan Bergman was born in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his education from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UCLA. At a very young age, that is, in the year 1950, he started associating himself in the entertainment industry. He started off early in the 1950s as a director of children's television shows. His love for the children's television continued even in the later period of his life and he continued to write for this particular section even after becoming a great and renowned star.
Even the story of his marriage with his wife Marilyn Bergman is very interesting. The couple met as newborns. They were born in the same hospital and then were raised in the same neighbourhood that was of Brooklyn. However, two of them never knew each other in those days. They remained as foreigners for each other for all the time they were neighbours. However, later on, they could only meet each other after they relocated themselves to Los Angeles. The twosome was awesome and produced and wrote musics and lyrics for several television shows and also for films and stage musicals. Both of them tied the knot in 1958.
Two of them together achieved many credentials for their exceptional hard and innovative works. It was in the year 1983 that the couple bagged the title to be the first songwriters ever to have composing three of the five tunes all of which were nominated for an Academy Award under best song category for Best Song. These songs are "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" from Best Friends, "It Might Be You" from Tootsie (with Dave Grusin), and "If We Were in Love" from Yes, Giorgio (with John Williams).
All of them have a beautiful melody that enchants the fans and makes them feel to listen the songs again and again. Besides carving a niche for himself in the musical arena, Bergman is also a master man in educational stream. He does hold an honorary doctorate degree. It was somewhere in 1980 when he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and then, in the year 1995, he was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the Berklee College of Music.
