Alan Stuart Franken was born on May 21, 1951. He is an American comedian, political commentator, author, screenwriter, and radio host, particularly famed for his liberal politics.

Franken first achieved national reputation on the talk show Saturday Night Live as the writing and performing partner of Tom Davis. His more up to date career achievements are politically-oriented, in the recent times he ahs been authoring books such as Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations. He has also been serving as host of his flagship program from Air America Radio, and taking varied steps (such as creating a PAC) which may be the ladder to a probable 2008 run against U.S. Senator Norm Coleman as district Minnesota's Democratic candidate.

Franken was born into a Jewish family in New York City, and spent his early years as a resident of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, in suburban Minneapolis. Then he graduated from The Blake School in the year 1969, where he was in the school wrestling team. Next he attended Harvard University and graduated with cum laude in the year 1973 with a degree of Bachelor in Arts in government.

He met his wife, Franni, while in his first year at Harvard at a Harvard-Simmons mixer and ever since they have been together. The Franken's reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Franken's performing career started in high school, where he along with Tom Davis, who was his long-time partner in writing, were known as clowns of the class. Franken sharpened his performing and writing skills at the Dudley Riggs' Brave New Workshop at Minneapolis. It was a theater specializing in satire of the political world.

Franken and Davis were appointed as the original writers duo on Saturday Night Live (1975-1980 and 1985-1995). Franken was awarded Emmy Awards thrice and was nominated for seven Emmy awards for his television writing and production. In 2003, Franken was given the honor to serve as a Fellow with the prestigious Harvard's Kennedy School of Government on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy.

Franken was also the first nationally syndicated talk show host on radio to visit Iraq, where he headlined two USO shows. Thereafter he has done five shows till date. Since May 2005 Franken has been a contributing blogger in The Huffing ton Post. The also wrote a book recently named the truth (with jokes), released on October 25 2005. In late 2005, Franken also started his own political action committee (PAC) called Midwest Values. Within a period of about two months, the PAC managed to raise nearly $170,000.
