Al Di Meora started off his career with his technical mastery. He was very fast in making complex guitar solos and compositions. But then on his early albums itself, he started to explore Mediterranean cultures and acoustic genres like flamenco. Al Di Meola, born as Al Laurence Dimeola on July 22, 1954 in Jersey City, New Jersey, is a well known American jazz fusion guitarist. He marked his active presence in the musical stream from the year 1974 to the present date. While accepting Jazz Fusion as the genre, he has carved a niche in his own stream while coming out as best jazz fusion guitarist.
Basically, Di Meola happens to be a resident of Old Tappan, New Jersey. He is known for his affiliation with Solo in Chick Corea.
His musical journey started in 1971 when he enrolled himself in the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Thereafter, he joined Chick Corea's band Return To Forever in 1974 and played with the band until a major lineup shift in 1976.
Although Di Meola explored a variety of styles, but is known for his sole expertise in his Latin-influenced jazz fusion works. He won four time awards as the Best Jazz Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine's Reader Poll.
