So more kids step in to try and keep the offense going. The Big Four are lefty senior F Rick McFadden, sophomore guard Dru Joyce, 6'-6' soph Jeremiah Wood and 6'-5' junior Darryl Peterson. Peterson played in just 5 games last season (back trouble), but when healthy is a slick inside scorer (13.8 ppg as a freshman and sophomore). Wood is 260-lbs and was a strong low post worker after averaging 10 ppg, 7.3 rpg as a freshman.

Joyce averaged 23 minutes per game and teams with quick 5'-7' Mario Collins in the backcourt. Sophomore F Romeo Travis provides depth off the bench along with soph newcomer Nick Dials, a transfer from Ohio State. Akron went 9-4 SU/5-6 ATS at home, but 4-11 SU/3-9 ATS on the road. This could be a surprise team, depending on how well the new coach teaches defense. They lack height, though, which will be a problem against bigger MAC teams.
Offense was not a problem for Akron (13-15 SU, 8-15 ATS) last season, averaging 71.8 points per game. But the defense was terrible, hence the poor records both straight up and ATS. That's why a new coach was brought in, Keith Dambrot. The new coach has some work to do after losing three big guns in 6'-4' Derrick Tarver, guard Jonathon Hollingsworth and low post threat 6'-8' Andy Hipsher.
