Afro-Cuban all stars are a band that have been responsible for promoting Afro-Cuban music. They have been the torch bearers for the Afr-Cuban genre and have taken it to the world stage. The band is directed by Juan De Marcos Gonzales, he is the ex-drummer of Sierra Maestra. It was formed in the late 90's.

The band released their first album in 1997 titled, " A Toda Cuba Le Gusta." It was one of the first to be located at the now legendary Buena Vista Social Club. The members of the band belong to various generations, their age ranges from 13 to 81 years. The band's music envelops the broad spectrum of Latin dance music, including mambo, cha cha, salsa, rumba, son montuno, timba, guajira, danzón, abakuá, and bolero. When asked about the band's music, Gonzalez said, "We have to use all the heritage of Cuban music to create a sound of the future."

Gonzalez formed the Afro-Cuban All Stars a little while after his band Sierra Maestra disbanded. He gained fame and acclaim with the group since the late 1970's. The Afro-Cuban All Stars, include pianist Ruben Gonzalez and trumpet player Yanko Pisaco. The vocals are provided by Pio Leyva, Raúl Planas, and Manuel "Puntillita" Licea. The band added to the line-up in 2000 when Los Van Van vocalist Pedro Calvo joined the group. The group later added Caridad Hierrezuelo to the band's lineup.
