Artist Biography - Aerosmith
Aerosmith is one of the biggest rock bands of their time. Their music has been described as a combination of influences of the Rolling Stones and Kiss. The 1970s was their break out decade. Unlike other bands, Aerosmith hit it big with their first album thanks to the huge hit single "Dream On." "Dream On" has continued its popularity to this day as it has been covered by other artists numerous times. After the succcess of their first album, Aerosmith toured extensively for almost the entire year. Their next album entitled Get Your Wings remained on the charts for several weeks but failed to maintain any selling power or critical acclaim. Thanks to their adoring devoted fans, the album remained on the charts for a remarkable 85 weeks. Unfortunately, it got very little or no airplay. 1975 would prove to be the breakout year for Aerosmith. It was that year when they would release the hit album, Toys in the Attic. The album achieved a lot of success thanks to such singles as "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion." This effect of this album was that Aerosmith would gain thousands of new fans who in turn went ahead and purchased their earlier work. Aerosmith offically became a staple of rock music. Aerosmith would not waste much time with releasing another album due to the fact that Rocks was released in 1976. It made it all the way up to number three on the charts and achieved platinum status. In 1977, Aerosmith would once again release another album, entitled Draw the Line. It made it all the way to number eleven on the charts. In 1978, Aerosmith had the honor of appearing in the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club performing a cover of "Come Together." The very successful 1970s ended on a low note as Aerosmith released Night in the Ruts which in turn only achieved gold status.

During the early 1980s, the heavy drug abuse and aspirations to do other projects took its toll on the band. The band was essentially broken up for almost two years. However, 1982 would be a year for them to always remember. Aerosmith would release Rock in a Hard Place after the release of a greatest hits album. Columbia records in turn would drop them from their lineup. The band tried to remain strong with a reunion tour in 1984 but it just was not the same. In 1986, Geffed records decided to take a chance on these struggling artists and in the same year Done With Mirrors was released. Thanks to Run DMC doing a cover of "Walk This Way," Aerosmith was back on the amp. Their official comeback album, Permanent Vacation, was released in 1987. This album produced such hits as "Angel," "Rag Doll," and "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)." This album achieved triple platinum status and made it all the way to number eleven on the charts. In 1989, Aerosmith would release one of their most successful albums ever, Pump. Hit singles from this release included "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Love in an Elevator." Officially, Aerosmith was back on the scene for good. The 1990s proved to be a successful decade for Aeromsmith with releases of such albums as Get a Grip and Nine Lives. Some of their most successful singles came from these albums. In 2001, the magic continued with Just Push Play and Aerosmith was also inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Aerosmith has been touring for almost 3 years now and have announced their final leg. Do not miss these rock legends because it not known if they will ever tour again. An Aerosmith concert is one of the most unique rock concerts that one can experience. Very few bands have lasted through over three decades and Aerosmith is one of the lucky few. Enjoy the show!
