Born on Dec 23, 1949, Adrian Belew is an influential American guitarist and vocalist . He was born as Robert Steven. Adrian is famous for working with the progressive rock group King Crimson. He joined this rock group in 1981. Adrian has worked with many renowned artists and musicians. Additionally he has launched many of his own solo albums for Island Records and Atlantic Records. For his super hit single "Beat Box Guitar:, he received nomination for a Grammy in 2005. This single was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Adrian is not only vocal and guitarist but also plays bass, piano and drums sometimes. Other than playing for himself, he has played guitar for many other artist's recording and he is well known for these contributions. He performed with Frank Zappa in 1977 that led him to further appear in Zappa's 1979 concert film "Baby Snakes" and his controversial album "Sheik Yerbouti". Adrian played guitar on David Bowie's 1979 album, "Lodger". In 1978, he helped him on stage world tour and the Sound + Vision world tour in 1990. In the latter tour, he performed as a musical director and played guitar as well backed in vocals.
As Adrian worked with many artist and contributed in many recordings, his credits include "Earth Moving" by Mike Oldfield, "Remain in Light" by the Talking Heads in 1980, "Lights Out" by Peter Wolf, and the landmark album "Graceland" by Paul Simon in 1986. Adrian appeared in the concert film " Home of the Brave" by Laurie Anderson during the mid-1980s. He also played for the Tom Tom Club on their first album in 1981. He contributed his talent to Nine Inch Nails in 1990s in two of their albums "The Downward Spiral" and "The Fragile". On the song "God Shuffled His Feet" by Crash Test Dummies, the synthesized guitar was played by Adrian in 1993.

Adrian founded his own pop band "The Bears" in late 1980s together with ex-Raisins members. He released two albums with his own band. The albums were " The Bears" , "Rise and Shine". Later he released another album in 2001, "Car Caught Fire". Adrian was featured on Tori Amos's 2001 cover album, "Strange Little Girls". Porcupine Tree's latest album made in 2005, "Deadwing" has received his lead guitar. In addition to this, he also played on the track "I Can't Get Behind That", on the 2004 Ben Folds-produced William Shatner album "Has Been". Adrian has wonderfully emulated various animal voices with electric guitar in a series of Japanese advertisements promoting the mechanic company Daikin. His voice is quite unique seems wild sometimes. His voice is often compared to Talking Heads singer David Byrne.
Presently, Adrian is on his tour to Atlanta. Recently he performed "The Acoustic Planet Tour "with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and Umphrey's McGee.
