The rock ‘n roll super group AC/DC got their start and their name at the Young household in Sydney, Australia. The brothers, Angus and Malcolm, watched their older brother George reach levels of success with the Easybeats in Australia and soon wanted their own chance to rock out. That started with a name. The brothers' name comes from the back of their sister's sewing machine. AC/DC become a philosophy for the group, representing the energy of the group and the performances driven by the maniacal power and love for their music. That began with a rotating door of drummers and lead singers. Eventually lead singer Bon Scott came by way the Young's older brother and the new group with guitarists Angus and Malcolm and bassist Larry Van Kriedt. By time AC/DC was selling tickets in 1975 to support their domestically released album High Voltage, the line up had the Young brothers as guitarists, Scott as the lead singer, Mark Evans as the bassist, and Phil Rudd as the drummer.
After a couple of Australia-only releases, AC/DC switched signed with Atlantic Records and re-released High Voltage internationally. In 1986 Who Made Who was released as the soundtrack for Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive. The movie bombed, but the self-titled single from the album renewed interest in the Aussie-rockers. The album The Razors Edge in 1990 officially put AC/DC back on the map and four years later, after Phil Rudd rejoined the group. The ‘90s were a great time for the band as huge concerts sold plenty of AC/DC tickets to old fans and a new generation of rockers.
Now, AC/DC is back with its sixteenth album, Black Ice. The group owns the stage with Angus and Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd, and bassist Cliff Williams.
