A Flock of Seagulls released their first EP on Cocteau Records in the early part of 1981. The album was a minor hit, though it failed to appear in the charts, but its lead track, "Telecommunication," became an underground hit in Euro-disco and also in the new wave clubs. This boosted the confidence of the band and they found themselves signing up a contract with a major-label Jive at the end of the year. Under the new label, they released their eponymous debut album in the spring of 1982. The album "So Far Away" was released and its first single "I Ran " was released. It was an instant success. Not only this, MTV then quickly picked up the single on its attractive video. The video featured long shots of Mike Score and his characteristic, and unique hair. It seemed that there was no stopping the band. The single also peaked into the American Top Ten, thus taking the album along with it. In the U.K., though "I Ran" didn't make the Top 40, but the next single "Wishing" from the album "If I Had a Photograph of You" featured at number ten at the later part of the year. In America, "Wishing" became a Top 40 hit in the year 1983. Not only this, even "Space Age Love Song" also appeared at number 30. After some time, Reynolds left the band after the completion of the album. He was later replaced by Gary Steadnin. In addition, the band also added keyboardist Chris Chryssaphis. After the release of the album, Mike Score formed a new lineup for A Flock of Seagulls, in the year 1989. With the new lineup, they released the single "Magic" and even embarked upon extensive touring, specially in the U.S.A. In the year1996 they released a new album, "The Light at the End of the World".
