311 was formed in 1990 in Omaha, Nebraska by singer/guitarist Nick Hexum, singer S.A. Martinez, guitarist Tim Mahoney, drummer Chad Sexton and the bassist known only as P-Nut. They were brought together through their passions for music and life. 311 is a mixture of funk, rock, rap, hip-hop, dancehall, reggae and whatever else you might perceive, mixed into their own style. 311 produced about three albums itself in Omaha, all of which sold well. The crowds of faithful fans grew larger and larger, culminating in a farewell concert at Peony Park in Omaha in February '92. After playing many local gigs, 311 moved to to Los Angeles, where they signed with Capricorn Records in 1991. 311's first CD, "Music", was released with little fanfare in February of '93, but has now gone gold. They released their second CD, Grassroots, in 1994. This CD eventually went on to turn gold as well. In September of 1996, the song "Down" hit the airwaves and became an across the board success at radio and MTV.

"Down" went to #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart and the follow-up single "All Mixed Up" went to #2. 311 released a video called "Enlarged to Show Detail" containing live concert footage, interviews, videos, backstage footage that debuted at #1 on Billboards Music Video Sales Chart and is now a Platinum video. 311's fourth cd "Transistor", debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 and is now Platinum. Their 1997 headlining tour in support of the "Transistor" album drew an overwhelming average of 10,000 people per night in the US. " From Chaos" is the band's sixth album, and it also is certified gold. 311 is the quintet better known for their loyal, grassroots fan base, and for their positive attitudes and the unity that they bring into this world through their lyrics, music, and inspiration. 311 will be releasing its ninth studio album, Uplifter, in the spring of 2009. The record release will be accompanied by 311 tickets for several festivals like SunFest in Florida.
