20th Annual Bridge School Benefit
Bridge school benefit regular Dave Matthews Band was also joined by Neil during a performance of 'Cortez the Killer,'. The performance was marked by spot-on soloing from violinist Boyd Tinsley. Devendra Banhart's band which featured folk veteran, Bert Jansch performed Crosby's 'Traction in the Rain'. Death Cab for Cutie covered 'Military Madness' originally sung by Graham Nash. Other artists gave knowing nods to Young's legacy. Banhart also yielded a portion of his set for performances of Jansch-penned cuts like 'When I Get Home,' first recorded by the latter's Pentangle.
Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, backed by a four-piece string section (including violinist/arranger Martin St. Pierre) played his first solo gig. Reznor transformed the tortured, programming-heavy music of Nine Inch Nails on tracks like 'Piggy,' 'The Fragile,' 'Right Where It Belongs' and 'Hurt,' to jibe with the mood of the day. Pearl Jam sampled with popular hits like 'Daughter,' 'Better Man' and 'Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town'. Pearl Jam also covered 'Picture in a Frame' by 'Tom Waits', finally clinching with 'Crazy Mary'. Foo Fighters sand acoustic versions of hits like 'Everlong,' 'My Hero,' 'Big Me' and 'Times Like These.'
Kids were seen cheering and enjoying the show. The Bridge School Benefit is an educational center for youth with severe speech and physical impairments. The program is dedicated to achieve full participation of the children in their communities through the use of Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative & Alternative means of communication(AAC) applications.
Previous performers include The Who, Sir Paul Mc Cartney, David Bowie, Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Springsteen, Norah Jones, Bright Eyes, EmmyLou Harris, Jerry Lee Lewis, Los Lobos and Good Charlotte. In 2005, fans had a lifetime experience when Neil Young was accompanied by former CSNY band-mates Graham Nash, Davis Crosby and Stephen Stills. In 2006, Neil Young and Pegi received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from San Francisco State University for their creation of the Bridge School.

Artist Biography - 20th Annual Bridge School Benefit

Rock and Folk legend, Neil Young, who has sold an extraordinary amount of tickets in his lifetime, along with his wife Pegi Young founded the Bridge School Benefit. In addition, the school supports the Bridge School benefit Concerts. The event was held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre at California's Mountain View on the 21st and the 22nd of October,2006. Young's sons with actress Carrie Snodgress, both suffer from Cerebral Palsy and attend the school. For nearly two decades, this event has drawn international talent and sell-out crowds. Some of the biggest names in Rock and Roll have performed for this special benefit. A golden glow descended on the stage and Neil Young, the patriarch took off with 'Flags of Freedom,' 'Long May You Run' and 'Comes a Time,'. His wife, Pegi joined him on vocals. Young joined Gillian Welch and David Rawlings on their cover of 'Country Girl (Medley)' from his 1969 album 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.' Neil joined Pearl Jam for a complete live performance of 'Throw your Hatred Down' from their 1995 collaboration, 'Mirror Ball'. Young played organ to Brian Wilson's 'Good Vibrations'.
